(RT) DACA (Random Thoughts)

DACA – Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals – was approved by the Obama Administration in 2012 to allow for up to 2 years of deferred removal for illegal immigrants who arrived under the age of 18. DACA does not confer legal status – the alien remains illegal but may gain up to 2 years before being deported.

I have friends who came to the country legally and are working tirelessly to gain citizenship the right way. They waited in their home countries, processed through proper channels, and finally received visas to emigrate. What does DACA tell them when they’ve spend blood, sweat and dollars to earn that citizenship? What does DACA promise to children who may not have had a vote in illegally entering the US? What would you do if you were in the President’s shoes? What would you do if you were a DACA child?

We can’t turn a blind eye to these children, some of whom are wholly American because they’ve spent their whole lives in America, albeit illegally. But right is right. Let them enter the system, wait for due process, apply for citizenship through legal means and be productive otherwise in the interim. Else the only answer is deportation. It’s the law and it’s imperfect, but it’s what makes us a civilized society.

And BTW (crossover moment) Romans 13 says to “Obey the government, for God is the one who has put it there. There is no government anywhere that God has not placed in power.” Illegal immigration is not only illegal, it’s immoral.
