God Save the Queen - and Rodney Smith Jr.
“You know, God works in mysterious ways and He shows you what He wants to be done.” – Rodney Smith Jr., British by birth, American by choice.
You may never have heard of Rodney Smith Jr. unless you spend time below the cut line of the local paper or get a prompting from a friend. But Rodney Smith Jr. embodies the selfless principles that make America a great Christian nation.
Rodney was born in the Bermuda, making him a British subject. He moved to Alabama where he noticed an elderly neighbor struggling to cut his grass. So Rodney pulled over and helped. From there, he volunteered to cut grass for other elderly, disabled, veterans and single moms. His service gained popularity which prompted him to start the volunteer organization “Raising Men Lawn Care Service.” The premise for “Raising Men” is that young and teen boys need positive male role models to show them the value of hard work and giving to others. In the last three years since founding “Raising Men” Rodney has mowed 2,000 lawns.
For free.
Rodney was recognized by Queen Elizabeth II with the “Queen’s Award” for his service to his community and Shareably.net’s own Kalli Sarkin wrote an article about him on November 22nd, the day before Thanksgiving. Bermudan-American Rodney Smith Jr. exemplifies God’s word.
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters” (Col 3:23, NIV)
So today’s challenge is short and sweet. Do all things as if God was your boss. Don’t rely on external rewards or accolades from men; rather, find God’s prompting, listen to His voice, and do His bidding for His glory.
Seems simple enough.
