He is Awesome
There is the Empire State Building, but it’s not really much compared to Freedom Tower. There is the New River Gorge Bridge, again, not much when compared to the Golden Gate Bridge. One could argue for the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican or Las Lajas Cathedral in Colombia, or even St. Basil’s Cathedral in Moscow as the standard bearer for churches, but here I prefer Inner City Mission or Mission International in – pick a place.
“Jesus has been counted worthy of greater glory than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself. For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.” (Heb 3:3-4, Berean)
It really is a matter of perspective – perspective and relationship. As I was flying over Moab, Utah, this past week I couldn’t help but notice the sheer awesomeness of the geography built by the same God who is making my grandchild. He moved the glaciers to cut cavernous grooves in the earth, and yet He numbered and meticulously placed each strand of lanugo that warms my grandchild in the womb. He stirs up the atmosphere and creates hurricanes, calmed the storm on the Sea of Galilee, and yet he touched my grandchild’s heart the day after conception to begin the next cycle of life – beat, beat, beat.
In a word, God is Awesome.
