Get Busy with the Business of Loving One Another

Matthew 22:39 says, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” (NKJV)

1 Peter 3:9 says, “Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing.” (NIV)

Galatians 6:9 – 10 says, “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.” (NKJV)

Nowhere in God’s word does He call us to send our neighbors back to where they came from. Nowhere does He call on the Children of God to give in to the evil around us and join in the cacophony of verbal assaults. Nowhere does He say, “That’s ok. They’ve been mean to you so go ahead and be mean to them.” On the contrary, God calls us to withstand every evil arrow fired in our direction.

I voted for President Trump, and I still believe in him. I believe in him not because he is a “good Christian leader,” but because I believe God raises up our leaders for the time in which we need them. I believe that God calls us to pray for our leaders, not condemn them. And while I disagree with many things this President does, I trust my God.

Raise your hand if you agree with me that there is already enough hate in this world. We don’t need to add to it by lambasting our political opponents on things that carry no weight with the American people. We don’t need to add to the hateful rhetoric that gives credence to cries of racism by those who have proven themselves racist. We don’t need to justify another volley of vitriol by adding to the mainstream media sound bite collection.

We need to pray. We need to seek His face. And we need to come together as a nation against the evils of today. Black, white, yellow – God looks past the color of our skin and sees the color of our heart. In God’s camp, there are two nationalities. One is the citizen of heaven and life, having accepted Jesus Christ as the true Son of God and Savior of mankind, worshipping at His feet or waiting at the gate – a child of the One True God. The other is the citizen of death, having forsaken the call to salvation or simply decided not to believe – a child of Mammon. The Child of God has been washed by the blood of Jesus himself. The child of Mammon bathes in the blood of this generation. The Child of God prays for those around him, for their peace and wisdom. The child of Mammon prays for others to fail. The Child of God revels in the good fortunes of those he knows and loves. The child of Mammon reviles others’ fortune, even of those he loves.

Christian, Child of God, join me in prayer for wisdom. Ask for repentance with me, so that our prayers may be heard among the heavens. Seek with me forgiveness for the hardness of our generation’s hearts. Find with me the healing our Church needs in these end times.

Love your neighbor as yourself.
