Teach a man...

Happy New Year!

Different people treat the change to a new year in different ways. Some see it as a waypoint in time, a chance to shift focus or direction to something new. Others see it as marking the passage of time, another year over, one less year in the life. Some relish the passing of a "bad" year and look forward to a better new year. Still, others make resolutions for change.

For me, the new year is bound by business activity. There are certain things a business does to wrap up the passing year and prepare for the new one. We do budget and staffing plans. We evaluate lessons learned from the previous year and gauge how well we're incorporating them into our processes. We forecast activity and look for ways to codify gains while writing off losses.

As servant leaders, we can use the new year as a jumping off point. We can set a new baseline. Last year we "built our team." This year we "build our team up." We have all heard the adage,

"Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime." - origin unknown.

I take that one step farther. Jesus said,

“Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” (Matthew 4:19, NKJV)

In 2023, Servant Leader, be the kind of leader who fishes for men.
